Living in Barcelona

Barcelona is vibrant, international, and easy to navigate once you understand the basics. Here’s what you need to know to settle in quickly and make the most of the city.

Welcome to a city where innovation meets the Mediterranean lifestyle. Barcelona isn’t just a world-famous destination; it is a thriving global business hub and the startup capital of Southern Europe. From the high-tech corridors of the 22@ Innovation District to the vibrant, historic streets of the city center, Barcelona is more than a place to study: it is your launchpad to the world.

How much does it cost to live in Barcelona?

Barcelona offers a fantastic quality of life at a more affordable price than other major European hubs like Paris or London. While your expenses will depend on your lifestyle, here is an estimated monthly budget for a student.

What to do in Barcelona?

Beyond the classroom: student life in Barcelona

Art & culture

Immerse yourself in a city famous for Antoni Gaudí’s breathtaking architecture, world-class museums, and a vibrant local music scene. Enjoy discounted student access to cultural hubs like MACBA and the Picasso Museum.

Sun, Sea & Outdoors

With over 4.5 km of beaches and the beautiful Collserola mountains right in your backyard, Barcelona is an outdoor lover’s paradise. Go paddleboarding after class, play beach volleyball, or hike up to the Bunkers del Carmel for sunset.

Innovation & Networking

Barcelona is Southern Europe’s leading tech hub. Attend massive global events like the Mobile World Congress (MWC) or 4YFN, meet entrepreneurs in the 22@ district, and build a powerful international network before you even graduate.

Barcelona is truly one of a kind. With its daytime and nightlife atmosphere, I like to tell people that it’s a mix of Rome, Miami, and New York City all in one place. […] For me, it pushed me out of my comfort zone, but in doing so it taught me how to become truly independent.”

Barcelona features a typical Mediterranean climate, characterized by mild winters (10–18°C) and hot summers (25–35°C). The city’s coastal location ensures pleasant weather for most of the year, but it’s important to note that air conditioning is not standard in all apartments. If you’re planning to study here, consider this when choosing accommodation, especially for the summer months.

Barcelona has an extensive and reliable public transport system (metro, bus, tram, and regional trains).
